Ultimate Sharks
Discovery needed an app that bites. We found a few sharks to do the job.
| Discovery came to us to help iPad users get a bigger bite out of the popular Shark Week experience. After an entirely immersive research period consisting of watching multiple shark attack movies such as Jaws and Deep Blue Sea and after loosing several staff programmers during an underwater expedition involving a swarm of Great Whites, we felt confident enough to develop an app chronicling the giant marauding underwater beasts. Well…. we didn’t really go that far, but the app development went swimmingly, so to speak.
Discovery wanted to launch this impressive app right before the 2011 Shark Week season aired in order to drive new viewers to the show and provide a fun experience for current devotees. By creating a unique, engaging experience 100% true to the long running show itself, we integrated in many exciting features including profiles on the 10 deadliest sharks, a fun 3D interactive shark that the user can control with his/her finger and even hunt for fish, and a myriad of high quality videos, pictures, and other exclusive content. After coming up with five design concepts with various navigation schemes and visual styles, we ended up with a fun user experience allowing shark enthusiasts to satisfy their curiosity comfortably without being bitten in half. |
